I had my reservations about seeing this - wished I had listened to them. This movie was plain awful and ugly.

I should’ve walked out after the disgusting opening scene. The director took great license with the interpretation and used red and black throughout to symbolize blood and violence. Characters were changed or left out altogether.

Dirty, sick trick played on audiences expecting a romantic movie. I imagine it could’ve been if they had left out the elements of sexual perversions and adultery. This is not a family movie, this is not a wholesome movie. This is not a date movie. This is not a decent movie. Don’t be deceived by the Hollywood hype. This is not a movie about lost romance to bring you to tears. This is a movie to cry for your own self for having seen.

Disliked sexual conduct not necessary! Why can’t you just stick to the original script without adding sexual misconduct? Poor adaptation

While this movie was well cast and well acted, clearly the director felt a need to add overly sexualized and fetishistic elements that detracted from the original story about love, pride, and obsession. The original story had its share of shocking moments (digging up your lost love 10 years later to view the corpse - look it up - belief in ghosts, etc.) but, instead of these gothic elements, we get chaining up women - great (read sarcasm)! The love and obsession came through, but in an art-imitating-life moment, you will find yourself wanting to cover your youth's eyes, as Heathcliffe does to Cathy at 1 point so she doesn't view a bondage scene in the barn. These are poor directorial choices. They say sex sells, but I think we're all bored of this base content. Know your audience! Otherwise, it would have been a good film, with some deviations in script (such as the father and older brother characters being combined). The scenes of luxury at the Linton estate were satisfying, but Cathy was happiest running wild on the moors in her feisty relationship with her childhood friend.

If you thought you were going to see a romantic movie, think again. I am absolutely floored that anyone would be crying at the perceived romance that is supposedly the object of this movie. In actuality, it is only the notion of romance that brings people unwittinglyto the movie because it is mixed with bondage, whips, basic entry levels of sadomasochism. I felt I wanted to leave the movie soon into it. Weird. Weird. Weird. Yes he looks really handsome at certain points in the movie. Well, honestly, I never read the book and I had not anticipated that this would be anything but romance. I felt filthy after leaving it. Even though I shielded my eyes and my ears. If you like seeing actors having pretend sex, again, this is the movie for you. In the carriage, on the floor, on the table, anywhere everywhere. We’re supposed to root for the two adulterers. Not me. I’m just giving you a word of warning. If you’ve already been desensitized and you like this kind of BS, then go ahead, but I am trying to tell the people who haven’t lost their innocence and still want to see a good movie. This is not one of them.

A lusty, bloated rendering of the classic story of love, vegeance and regret on the Yorkshire moors. Key themes are minimized as the screenwriter/director puts lust and sex at the forefront, making for a strangely flat vibe throughout. Good performances from a strong cast, but this modernized version is little more than big-time melodrama. Alison Oliver is a scene stealer.

No chemistry between Heathcliff and Cathy -such a boring, awful script and lust NOT LOVE. Whoever dreamed this up should never put anything out again - not ever. Save your money, save your eyes. It was sickening and I've berated myself for not walking out sooner.

3 people in the theatre and 1 walked out early. Clearly tells you Don't Go! I lost all respect for these 2 main actors. I wouldn't be surprised if this movie tanks and it justifiably should. Beyond disgusting is the highest praise I can give this movie. If I can stop at least 1 person from wasting their money...this post will be worth it.
