In 1932, identical twins Elijah "Smoke" and Elias "Stack" Moore (Michael B. Jordan) return to Clarksdale, Mississippi, after seven years of working for the mob. Using stolen money, they open a music venue for the local Black community. They enlisted the help of their younger cousin Sammie, excited to pursue his musical talent despite the disapproval of his strict pastor father.
Stack comes face-to-face with his ex-girlfriend Mary (Hailee Steinfeld), whom he left behind in an effort to protect her from the town's deep racial tensions. Meanwhile, a far greater threat emerges when the twins encounter Remmick, an Irish immigrant vampire drawn to Sammie’s extraordinary gift. As Remmick and his growing gang of thralls close in, the brothers are forced to desperately fight to defend their dream, their family, and their community from the unknown supernatural dangers that awake for them.
