Wild child Agnes (Jessie Buckley) prefers spending time in the woods with her hawk to being around her family. A tutor (Paul Mescal) working for her family is immediately smitten when he spots her going past his classroom. They quickly fall in love, are married and have a baby girl.
Although they’re deeply in love, Agnes realizes her husband isn’t fulfilled, so she suggests he go to London to pursue his craft – of writing plays. He's wildly successful and makes trips home as much as he’s able, especially when Agnes gives birth to twins. After a tragedy occurs while he’s away, Agnes becomes resentful that she has to face her sorrow alone.
